Five keys to landing your dream job!
(My apologies to HR for letting candidates in on this secret.)
The Key to finding your dream job and not having much competition in the interview process is to contact hiring managers directly. I needed you to prove yourself worthy because we can’t let everyone in on our secret.
1. Make a list of 50-100 companies you would like to work for. You can research companies on the internet or use websites like Zoominfo.com and indeed.com
2. Find out who the hiring manager is at each of these companies. You need to target the manager of your desired occupation. For example if you are looking for a public relations job you would target PR Managers. You can find the names and titles of employees in a company using LinkedIn.com and Zoominfo.com.
3. Start calling and asking for each manager one by one. The purpose of your call is to introduce yourself and let them know that you are available for employment and 1-3 reasons you can help his business succeed. There are usually two ways you can help a company succeed. You can let them know how you can save the company money or what skills you bring to the table that will land them additional business. Be creative.
4. You will leave many voice mail messages but use that to your advantage and write an email to the manager. In the title write; “I just left you a voice mail.” In the body write two short sentences of how you can save them money or what skills you have that can land them additional business. You can get many of their emails on Zoominfo.com or just ask the operator at the company for the managers email address. Many times they will give it to you if you have a good reason other than sending them a resume. Be creative.
5. The last key to be organized and to follow up. If you left a voice mail call back the next week. Keep track of managers telling you to call them back. If you are organized I guarantee this effort will pay off and you will be interviewing at companies for a position that now one else even knows about.
